Participant Outcomes

Wilderness Backpacking Skills: Hikers will gain hands-on experience in essential wilderness backpacking skills, including navigation, camp setup, proper food storage, and Leave No Trace principles, ensuring a safe and responsible trek through the untamed landscape.

Navigating Ocean Tides: Participants will learn the importance of understanding and navigating ocean tides, as well as their impact on the coastal environment, enabling them to safely traverse the Lost Coast's dynamic shoreline.

Equipment List

For the Lost Coast Expedition, we recommend that backpackers bring the following essential equipment:

  1. Backpack (50-70L capacity, with rain cover)
  2. Tent (3- or 4-season, lightweight, with stakes and guylines)
  3. Sleeping Bag (rated for temperatures in the range of 30-40°F)
  4. Sleeping Pad (inflatable or foam)
  5. Hiking Boots or Shoes (waterproof and broken in)
  6. Clothing:
  7. Moisture-wicking base layers (top and bottom)
  8. Insulating mid-layers (fleece or down)
  9. Waterproof and breathable outer layers (jacket and pants)
  10. Hiking pants or shorts
  11. Quick-drying shirts (long- and short-sleeve)
  12. Underwear and sports bras
  13. Hiking socks (synthetic or wool, multiple pairs)
  14. Sun hat or cap
  15. Beanie
  16. Gloves or mittens
  17. Headlamp (with extra batteries)
  18. Trekking Poles (optional, but recommended)
  19. Cookware and Stove (compact, lightweight)
  20. Water bottles or hydration system (minimum 3L capacity)
  21. Water filter or purification system
  22. Food (lightweight, non-perishable, and calorie-dense)
  23. Eating utensils (spork, bowl or plate, and mug)
  24. Multi-tool or knife
  25. Personal First Aid Kit
  26. Navigation tools (map, compass, and optional GPS device)
  27. Emergency whistle
  28. Sunscreen and lip balm (SPF 30+)
  29. Sunglasses
  30. Insect repellent
  31. Camera or smartphone (for capturing memories)

Please note that equipment such as backpacks, tents, and sleeping bags can be rented from Inner Peak if needed. Be sure to pack according to the specific weather and conditions expected for your trip, and consult with your guide for any additional recommendations.
